Civic Culture Book Club
Book clubs across Oklahoma reading and talking about civic life together.

We work with book clubs across the state to align around books, discussions, and shared civic values—and together we learn and grow and get organized. Democracy is a practice—something we study and something we do.
We’re launching CCBC right after the election with Live Like a Citizen by Eric Liu.
What is civic culture? It has nothing to do with political parties.
In reading and discussing our first book, Live Like a Citizen, we will learn about tools to turn away from the resentment and cynicism eroding democratic life, and to turn toward a healthier way of living together. Because civic joy and responsibility mean showing up for your community. It's how we treat others, how we work together to solve the problems facing our community.
What's more, civic engagement should be both intellectually and emotionally fulfilling! (Like a book club!)
If you are upset, discouraged, enraged, or disengaged, you are not alone. If you are optimistic, hopeful, or energized, please come share that with others.
This is your invitation to reclaim your belief in democracy. To paraphrase from the book we are reading in November: Take a leap of faith with neighbors, strangers, even if it seems hopeless. Especially if it seems hopeless.
Meetings will be at various participating bookstores and library branches, starting in November.

About this club
Let’s Fix This is hosting a city-wide read of Live Like a Citizen by Eric Liu, co-founder and CEO of Citizen University. Described as a spiritual guide to renewing hope and healing in American civic life, the book speaks to a moment when trust is frayed, and many people have lost faith in one another. Yet most of us don’t want to live this way. We’re tired, and we’re ready to be invited into something better.
Liu offers readers eight practices for stepping away from resentment and cynicism and toward a healthier way of living together, ones that rekindle our belief in democracy and in our own humanity. Join Rep. Ellen Pogemiller, HD88, and Councilor James Cooper, Ward 2, as we read, reflect, and talk about what it means to live like a citizen.
