This seems obvious first step, but too few people actually schedule their voter registration drives, and they don’t end up happening.

Decide when and where you want to do it, make contact with event organizers as necessary.

Be mindful of the weather, the relevant voter registration deadlines, and other events happening at the same time.

Volunteering is always more fun with a buddy! Promote your event in Facebook groups and on your own social media profiles. Tell folks you need help—people you know are the most likely to help out.

We also recommend you review the relevant information on the State Election Board website. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will be, too.

While Oklahoma now has online voter registration, the system isn’t perfect, and we recommend always having paper forms on-hand.

You can download the Oklahoma Voter Registration Form (PDF) directly from the State Election Board website and print as many copies as you’d like.

You can also request copies from your county election board.

Once you’re set up, some people may come up to you, but we always have more success when we speak to people.

Say something like “Hi, are you registered to vote at your current address?” or offer them something useful, such as “Would you like a voting reminder card?”

If you are at a community event and have multiple volunteers, we suggest 1-2 staff the table and have others carry clipboards and walk around the crowd. Tape a sign to the back of your clipboards that says “Register to Vote” in large letters, that way people your clipboard can be used as a sign to advertise what you’re doing.

This is crucial—you must take or mail all the completed forms to the election board ASAP so they can be processed.

If you have forms from just one county, the best practice is to take them to the nearest county election board.

If you have forms from multiple counties, you can get them to the State Election Board and they’ll ensure they are sent to the correct county board(s).
